This is going to be a quick little check in. About a month late, but oh well
I had another birthday.
It's nothing special...it's not some milestone, like 16 or 21 or 40. It's just a number.
But it sure is awfully nice to be recognized for getting another year older.
It has been a tough year, I can't deny it.
Not because of work, or family issues, or failed friendships. It completely has to do with me and getting older.
Aches, pains, lack of sleep, hot flashes, weight gain, stress about the hot flashes and lack of sleep (which leads to more weight gain).
Have I mentioned I now have reflux...and like constantly!
I don't run anymore. Kinda because I can't. It hurts my knees too much, and I'm out of breath almost immediately.
And don't get me started on my back. It's a mess.
However, I still ride my bike. Maybe not as fast as I used to, but I'm still riding.
Although I did have to buy some new shorts and jerseys. I am definitely not a medium anymore.
And I am digging this gravel thing more and more!
But one thing I am learning as I continue to age, is that...
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK!
Ok, I do a little, but I also don't.
I'm eating healthy-ish. I don't smoke. I drink rarely. I exercise fairly regularly.
Now I'm not at the gym 4 times a week, nor have I been doing my exercises that the PT doc wants me to do for my shoulder, but I walk, I bike 2-3 times a week, and I'm on my feet almost all day long.
And next week the outdoor pool opens for lap swimming, so I'm going to be there whenever I can!
I have a great group of friends that are fun, encouraging, helpful, crazy, wonderful!
And they love me for me.
All of me!
On top of that, my family is awesome!
J is wrapping up his sophomore year of High School, and has discovered CSI. The original show from the early 2000s. Next year, instead of Chemistry, he was placed in a new class--Forensic Science. He is really getting into this. And it works well with his inquisitive nature.
That doesn't mean his love of history or trains has gone away, but hopefully his horizon is expanding.
B on the other hand has finished his Middle School career.
He had a very successful run, with high academic marks, lots of friends and even awards for band! Plus, he may even have a budding career as an actor, if his film club project goes viral.
He's a hoot!
My hubby is super supportive and we are in a good place. We had a an amazing opportunity to see the Rolling Stones, and we jumped on it. Just incredible! I can't believe they are 80 years old!
As for the job...seriously? It is fantastic!
My dream of working in museums is alive and well! I'm really happy that I took the leap of faith and went back to work there.
Of course it helps when you have an incredibly supportive boss and co-workers.
So, as I reflect on the past year, I'm happy. Sure I could lose 20 pounds, ok, maybe 40, but just like my age, it is just a number.
It's not going to stop me from riding 300 miles in October on the Erie Canal Trail. And its not going to stop me from doing many other crazy things.
So happy birthday to me!
I think this year may be a good one!
